Of Vengeance…
"You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.' But I say unto you, But I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. Matthew 5:38-39
When I was growing up we used to play various indoor games. Yes, indoor games because we were few to have as much fun outside!
So we would play cards and some funny game where they spin the paper around and the blindfolded victim gets to randomly point the pen any of the fields in the circle drawn on the paper to see his reward.
This game taught us a lot of critical thinking especially when we were spinning for someone. At some point when one got the last reward (A funny monster or a zero with a crying face) all circumstances would make them feel like the people spinning caused it.
So to Revenge, they would be the one to spin for that person so that they would make sure they place the monster in the highest probability of pointing! To us that revenge could cause a temporary feud between the two parties!
Anyway, the whole reason why I brought up this story is the question I asked my self, If only such a game resulted into anger and seeking “revenge” how much more the present day situation where we have competition in everything? Be it in business, education, relationships, people are working endlessly some to the reason that So and so is better than them or has more than them yet they wanna be the Top dog..
I’m not saying it’s bad to have a friendly competition to boost your efficiency! All I’m saying is Godliness with Contentment is great gain. Let someone’s success not cause you to plot him a ditch just so that you “unexplainably” move to the top rather, let someone’s success motivate you to learn from him and do better! Know how to learn from those greater than you. That’s the whole point of their existence.
And when you face a situation when you’re the one on top and someone seeks to degrade you in unfair ways our theme scripture perfectly instructs us not to resist the one who is evil.
They’ll talk, they’ll try in all ways to get you to feel offended but you’re above them and that should also be manifested in the reaction you have towards their burning rage.
It is wisdom for you to know how to respond to the actions of rivals. Learn to be above negativity!
