Love Vs Submission

Lets start by asking the candid question :

What is submission?

Well submission, according to the dictionary is the action of accepting or yielding to a superior force or to the will or authority of another person.

The time someone gets to the point of accepting that someone is above them is mostly due to fear, revelation or love.

Fear is not necessarily the anxiety or feeling someone gets when they assume something is dangerous or harmful or maybe they are worried about the outcomes of an event, we are looking at fear in its definition of being the absolute reverence to someone or something (more so a mixture of respect and prioritizing their opinions above any other.)

Its in this reverence that one chooses to accept and give in to the other's will in the trust and faith of their superiority and authority.

By revelation, is when one is enlightened or unveiled to the realization of the other that they actually do have authority over them hence accepting to yield to them.

We can also submit to a person because of love. But this would impose a question: If you say that love causes submission does that mean that God is submitted to us?

And my answer would be YES! I want you to take a look at this scripture,

Think of yourselves the way Christ Jesus thought of himself. He had equal status with God but didn’t think so much of himself that he had to cling to the advantages of that status no matter what. Not at all. When the time came, he set aside the privileges of deity and took on the status of a slave, became human! Having become human, he stayed human. It was an incredibly humbling process. He didn’t claim special privileges. Instead, he lived a selfless, obedient life and then died a selfless, obedient death—and the worst kind of death at that—a crucifixion.

There was a point in time when Jesus (God Himself!) humbled and subjected him self to the authorities of the world, and a lowly life even to the point that he was crucified. He SUBMITTED to the world all for the end that He might save mankind, and why did He do that?

Because HE LOVES YOU AND ME!

Dear Reader, this not only was, is and always will be the greatest expression of love in the history of expressions of Love, it is also a pattern Christ set for they that would go ahead to continue His legacy as Christians (as its in the name "Like-Christ") and redeem more of their lost bros and sisters in the world that they would, as a nature of the love (the very love which is of Christ), submit to one another. As emphasized by Paul in Ephesians that all believers are to “be filled by the Spirit . . . submitting to one another in the fear of Christ” (Ephesians 5:18b, 21).

Kinda ironic that even in this we are submitting in the fear (reverence) Of Christ since we are prioritizing and respecting His law (the greatest law) which is to Love one Another and what's love without submission. So it's a two in one win!

This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. - 1 John 3:16
